AIA New Practices New York

New Practices New York 2008 was a juried portfolio competition and exhibition sponsored by the New Practices Committee of the AIA New York Chapter. It served as a platform for recognizing and promoting new, innovative and emerging architecture firms within NYC that have undertaken unique and commendable strategies. The jury selected six of NYC's most promising architecture firms. WSDIA was asked to create the branding, exhibition design and graphics, content development, photography art direction, advertising (print & online) and poster design.

Due to the existing gallery conditions of the CFA's mezzanine level, we divided the space into 2 parts—practice and work. The practice area showcased interview content about studio history, inner workings and ideas. Studio portraits, atmospheric interior images, and profile videos were also featured in the practice area. The work area displayed the six winning portfolios, and models fitted onto armature pieces—connecting the viewer in the gallery to the viewer at street level. Along with the portfolios and models, a 2'x2' volumetric sculpture piece was created by each studio.
