Our name, WeShouldDoItAll (WSDIA), is simply an intention.* We feel designers should not be constrained to a singular expertise. To survive and excel within the creative realm, it is essential to know there is no single, absolute solution to any given problem. To immerse oneself in different avenues allows consideration of the otherwise unconsidered. It’s this method of working that excites and serves to drive our studio’s practice.

These solutions take the form of branding, spatial, environmental, interactive, or print projects. We oscillate between accomplished commercial clients, established public institutions, social impact initiatives, and the unconventional or boutique — preserving our dynamic nature and avoiding a singular area of expertise or client type. This provides an edge that we apply to all challenges, as different industries are constantly overlapping and inspiring one another.

People

Mai-Phuong Bui (they/them), Graphic Designer
The Vietnam-born nonbinary designer and visual artist is also an illustrator, storyteller, and mythmaker, they are invested in filling the gaps in (queer) history caused by oppression or colonization by exploring queerness as being stripped of humanness and declining the right to reincarnate. In their spare time, they design with the collective OTHER PUBLISHING.


Rey Carlson (they/them), Graphic Designer
Rey is a Chinese designer, visual artist, and writer. Their work often explores subjects such as queerness as refuge, Chinese mythology and storytelling, and loss. Rey's work centers queer alchemy as an interpersonal healing, intentional generosity over output, and always taking your shoes off at the door. Rey previously designed at A—B Partners and is a part OTHER PUBLISHING, a queer- and trans-Asian design studio and small publisher. Their work has been shown at Printed Matter’s NYABF, LAABF, BKABF, Something Special Studios, Precog Magazine, and at Video Snack 7. They are also a former SOW (Scope of Work) Design Fellow.


Janet Chan (she/her), Graphic Designer
Born in El Salvador and raised in China, this animal-loving designer works on identity, print, spatial and interaction projects. Her interests range from developing structures, to telling a narrative through different forms, to collecting ceramics when traveling. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School for Design and has worked on projects for clients across the art and culture industry to business. Prior to working at WSDIA, she worked at Thinx Inc, Wkshps, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.


Margaret Liu Clinton (she/they), Studio Director
Clinton's work across the fields of fine art, design, architecture, education, and finance propels their dedication to dialogical thought. At WSDIA they ensure that projects and systems run smoothly. In a past life, they served as the director of Miguel Abreu Gallery and Alexander Gray Associates before opening Koenig & Clinton (2012–2020). They are also a Whitney I.S.P. Critical Studies alum that holds a B.A. in cultural studies and a B.S. in environmental design (U.C. Davis). Grants and fellowships include the Ford Foundation (via Stop DiscriminAsian), the Helena Rubinstein Foundation, and the Berggruen Institute amongst others. They like cats.


Jonathan Jackson (he/him), Spatial & Graphic Designer
Hailing from Mount Vernon, NY, this WSDIA partner graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Architecture. Prior to founding WSDIA in 2004, he worked for architects Studio Archea in Florence as well as Archi-Tectonics and Lindy Roy in New York City. He served two years on the AIGA/NY board of directors and as visiting critic at Columbia University GSAPP, Pratt University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Ecole Superieure of Visual Merchandising Design in Switzerland.


Sarah Nelson Jackson (she/her), Graphic Designer
This Holmdel, New Jersey native is partner at WSDIA and graduated with a BFA from Boston University, her background in Graphic Design and Art History transitioned to an obsession with typography, interactivity, and understanding through visual arts. Sarah has generated measurable and significant results for projects from start to finish, from large e-commerce websites to emerging brands. She has lectured nationally and internationally.


DeMar Jones (he/him), Spatial Designer
DeMar is a passionate designer who received his Bachelor of Architecture from Southern Polytechnic State University. He gained experience at studios based in Georgia and New York including: SPAN Architecture, The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), and Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects. His soft spot for physical model making and detail fuels his excitement for design at all scales. His attitude and outlook are shaped by the constant need to travel and explore alternative solutions and ways of life. As he continues to build upon his experiences he is very interested in a more cross-disciplinary approach to design.


Bruke Marew (he/him), Spatial Designer
Bruke skillfully combines spatial design and storytelling through the mediums of documentary photography and architecture. With a strong visual background and a vivid imagination, he orchestrates spaces that interact harmoniously with the built and natural environment. Bruke aims to bridge different mediums of observation and discover innovative ways in which documentation and design can offer profound interpretations of our constructed surroundings, ultimately translating them into transformative interventions. He earned his degree in Architectural Design (Parsons School of Design) where he led the annual public seating intervention, Street Seats. He has worked at CIVILIAN and Bernheimer Architecture where he focused on large-scale housing developments.
